However, I decided I would take a break from digital photography and go photograph with film. So I grabbed my medium format camera and went hiking around Utah’s Capitol Hill. I would use my digital camera to meter and use those settings to photograph with the film camera.

This photograph is one of the digital shots – edited in Nik Software’s Viveza 2. Using their controls I am able to at least fake an HDR tonemapped image and take the original photograph from bland to a level I find much more cool and edgy.

And there was an excellent turn out to the event. And of course I brought my camera – cause I have nothing better to do with my life ;)

And I am practicing up a storm. I finally have my work flow down pat. I take 9 pictures per HDR and once it is created I delete 8 of the originals to save room. I keep the HDR and one “before” photo so I can show off a before and after. Or at least compare what HDR looks like compared to a regular image.

Who really wants to wear winter coats? However, this week it has been a balmy 44 degrees! So we photographed outside a bit and then inside just a bit.

It was getting dark fast and it gets dark inside the Capitol building at in the evening. I guess with budget cuts they don’t want to pay for light bulbs. It is a good thing I brought my Nikon SB-800 to go a bit “strobist.”

For those not familiar – strobist would be using the small flashes off camera to achieve some studio-like lighting. I also like shooting with the sun behind the person and then the flash off to the side to fill in what would have been a silhouette.
