QUAC is raising money for Team Utah to make it to the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany in July. So they held a car wash and BBQ outside of Jam. Check the full gallery of photos – there aren’t a lot because I spent most the time washing cars.

QUAC Ski-n-Swim 2010
written by dav.dQUAC hosts their annual Ski-n-Swim weekend every President’s Day. You might as well put that in the calendar and plan on 2011. It is on my to do list to get back in the pool. I might even be in shape by next year so I can get in the water as well and not just the photographer. Friday started at the Sheraton Hotel with the opening party and then Saturday had the swimming meet and water polo games.
The swim meet was at Steiner Pool at the University of Utah. The windows there are tiny compared to last year and with the overcast and rainy weather there wasn’t much light at all. I had to crank the ISO on my cameras to ISO 1600 and that was a bit painful. I shoot with the Nikon D300 and the Nikon D90 which do pretty well but not as good as their big brother cameras the D3, D700, and D3s for low light and low light sports performance. Since I am primarily a portrait photographer that is rarely an issue. But I do have the Nikon D700 and D3s on my wish list. And shooting sports reminds me why Nikon really does rule the roost in sports photography. With my Nikon D300 I can get 6 – 8 frame a second. The D3s will get about 10 and shoot in the dark. And the autofocus system on both cameras is dead on perfect.
But I am still going to be buying a Canon camera – cause I am a camera whore. Help support my camera habit by checking out the full gallery and purchase some photos! Momma needs a new camera!

QUAC Ski-n-Swim Preview – Day 163 of 365
written by dav.dEvery President’s Day Weekend QUAC hosts their Ski-n-Swim weekend. And one of these years I need to get back in the pool and swim and play some water polo. Till then I will just photograph the event. I will be writing up a bigger and better blog post about the Ski-n-Swim later. Right now I just needed to blog my daily photograph – this one is of Seth jumping into the pool during one of his races.
You can see the full gallery from QUAC’s Ski-n-Swim Weekend here.

QUAC Halloween 2009 – Day 59 of 365
written by dav.dHalloween is just a fun time of year. Adults dress up in sexy costumes and it gives them an excuse to just have fun. QUAC (Queer Utah Aquatics Club) hosted their annual Halloween party and Club Sound again this year. Tom Taylor who swims with the water polo team has been a huge support for QUAC and he opened up the club for the private party.
Check out the full gallery of photographs on my SmugMug page. Any purchases of course helps me out a lot.

And of course here I am dressed up as a cheerleader. I bought a 42 DD bra and stuffed it will about 6 pairs of socks. And I bought the make up in bulk at Wal-mart and I even applied it myself. I might need to practice. I am a better photographer than a make up artist

Aqua AID, QUAC, and the Utah AIDS Foundation 2009
written by dav.dFor a number of years QUAC and the Utah AIDS Foundation have teamed together to give you Aqua Aid. A Sunday afternoon of drinks, food and entertainment provided by QUAC. The morning weather was rainy and overcast but the skies cleared and we had awesome weather.
And check out the air that Ryan acheived! It pays to talk to the performers to know what to watch for. They mentioned Ryan would be performing an airwalk.

Utah AIDS Foundation’s AquaAID Fundraiser is Coming Up
written by dav.dThis is the season for fundraisers! On August 23rd, Sunday, the Utah AIDS Foundation will be hosting the annual AquaAID. There will be synchronized swimming performances and other musical numbers performed by QUAC (Queer Utah Aquatics Club). Having performed a few years ago I can tell you that synchronized swimming is challenging – but it is a lot of fun – and a lot of fun to watch.
And I will be there – with my camera. It is a great fundraiser. They have great food, cocktails, and entertainment. And it is for a good cause – to help raise money for people living with HIV/AIDS in Utah.

If I ever make it back to the pool I hope I can go as well – I haven’t been to Europe yet and that would be a blast.
