There are times where I don’t think I need to edit photos – the lighting and the subject look perfect when they come out of the camera. But then I start to dodge and burn and boost contrast and saturation and things do look even better. I love using my Wacom Intuos 4 large tablet – it is has an active area of 8″ by 12″ and it is amazing. (more…)

The Lauritzen Clan

written by dav.d

The Lauritzens have been close friends of my family since I was the tender age of one year old. Both their family and my family were in the military and we were stationed together in Kansas for several years and we always were able to bump into each other as we moved around the country.

So I was naturally thrilled when they asked me to be their family photographer. We had planned – tentatively – to photograph right after Christmas. We were hoping everyone would be in town for the photo. And we picked the Provo Castle for our backdrop.

Lots of snow – but lots of fun.

Wes – Model Extraordinaire

written by dav.d

What photo safari would be complete without a model with fierce attitude?  We found a cool new location (new for me) and we had two photographers for this model.

It is a lot of fun when you are just there to have fun with photography.  So often you are worried about what shot is next.  On these photo safari’s you get the chance to try new ideas in a much more relaxed environment.

So here are some of Wes’ photos:

Brian Gordon – Ace Photographer

written by dav.d

Remember when I mentioned that most photographers hate to have their photo taken? Well, there are a few photographers that do like to have their picture taken.  Recently I went on a photo safari of the Provo Castle (behind the psycho people hospital).  We had two photographers and a model and a pair of studio lights.

The goal was to practice with Brian’s new studio lights.  I will say this about his lights – I love my Alien Bees even more than ever.  But it was good to practice with them – practice sessions are always a good thing.  And with good weather and a sunday afternoon we were able to get some nice photos for everyone.

So here are some pictures I took of Brian Gordon of bgordonphotography.com:
