Saturday nights should always be this fun! I had the chance to second shoot for Nick Sokoloff up at the amazing Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah. I was helping him photograph a bar mitzvah and a bat mitzvah for a twin brother and sister. I helped photograph the cocktail party, dinner, and dancing (there was a lot of dancing). And there was a photo booth for the youth, air brush artists were there to create cool clothing, and a make your own cupcake and a lot of other cool events. And the food was amazing (every once in a while I get to sample of the the event’s cooking, yum).

I think this event puts many weddings to shame!

Mammoth Men Party in Park City

written by dav.d

The Mammoth Men are a group of 12 photographers that love to travel and have fun together. Past trips included road trips of the southwest, California and most recently Park City, Utah.

This photo was taken by my tiny point and shoot (Nikon Coolpix S210). It fits in the pocket and takes video. But it sure doesn’t compare to my big cameras :(

Last night they invited local photographers to participate in a Crazy Photobooth. Here are three video clips of the event. Check their site to see some of their photos from the night.

Queer Lounge: Homos from Home

written by dav.d

The Queer Lounge closed it’s doors Wednesday night. Well, actually that is a lie. The Queer Lounge closed it’s doors Thursday morning – the last party went on through the night.

There were live performances by Location Location and Matt Alber. DJ StacyStylez from New York was DJ through the night and the music was rocking.

We had stars on location. I only knew the names of two. There was John Amaechi a former Utah Jazz basketball player. And KayCee Stroh of High School the Musical 3. I probably should read up on the celebrities, however, if they aren’t on TMZ everyday I won’t know who they are.

Thanks to a fellow photographer who figured out some settings to achieve the perfect special effect. And so there were a bunch of those photos.

Queer Lounge Discusses Prop 8

written by dav.d

Proposition 8 passed, and it despite what people would argue the passage of Prop 8 is not the final chapter for the fight for equality. In business they say that true salesmanship begins when the client says no.

It may take years to overturn Prop 8 – it may be settled in court. We will see. In either case movies, films, shorts and media will help convey story, message and meaning for the fight for marriage equality. Queer film makers and a lawyer for the ACLU held a panel to discuss Prop 8 and what film has to offer in the political venue.

Sindance at Sundance

written by dav.d

I did not realize how much of Sundance is the late night parties. At least I figured it out this year. Randyblue.com and several other adult entertainment companies sponsored a really fun dance Monday night. Usually I am cuddled away in bed, however, this dance party was enough to lift me from slumber and photograph the night.

It was an pajama theme party – which somehow translated to underwear for many people. Modesty first!

So here are a number of pictures from the night – including a number of Reese Rideout who was a guest star who signed pretty much anything. I even had my picture taken with him. So now I am famous – sort of.

Queer Lounge @ Sundance Film Saturday Edition

written by dav.d

Saturday I took the opportunity to stroll through Main Street and soak in some vibe of the festival. I was also there to photograph some of the panels at the Queer Lounge.

Main Street is a very photogenic location. And it becomes a jungle when there are thousands of people there. There are people there hunting for celebrities and there are d-list celebrities who are trying to be recognized.

The Queer Lounge hosted to panels. The first was discussing the future of LGBT Film Festivals. The second panel was “Short Films – Yes, There is a Market.”

I did spot one Mark Harmon from NCIS – I love that show so I had to take a picture.

And here is a photo of me. As you may notice I am sporting my Shootsac. I did not wear it on Friday and with so many people it was a nightmare with my backpack. Saturday I did not make that mistake – I wore the Shootsac and I could easily navigate the crowds of Park City. I will keep pushing this product on other photographers – because someone needs to learn from my mistakes.

Queer Lounge @ Sundance Film Friday Edition

written by dav.d

Utah plays host each year to the Sundance Film Festival.  This year I was asked by QSaltlake magazine to photograph the happenings and going ons of the Queer Lounge.

The Queer Lounge has held a presence at Park City and the Sundance film festival for several years. It provides a place for queer and queer friendly people to hang out and be groovy (my description). Prime sponsors were Absolut and GLAAD.

On Friday GLAAD hosted a terrific party – Thank GLAAD It’s Friday. The venue on the 3rd floor held 300 people and they had 1200 RSVP. It was packed.

Click any of the photos below to see the full gallery of Friday.

And I had my first celebrity sighting of Sundance – Todd Herzog from Survivor.
