Henry’s 4 Generations – Day 353 of 365

written by dav.d

My sister celebrated her birthday Sunday evening with family from both side – the Daniels, the Bush family and even LaRee Elmer who tips the calendar at 94 years old was there. So for Henry he had 4 generations of family there. I should have photographed Grandma Bush since LaRee is her mom – but Grandpa Bush will have to do.

Since the Bush side of the family is not my family – I was a bit fuzzy on the who-is-who. And it wasn’t until I wrote this blog post that I realized the great opportunity I almost had. However, LaRee seems to be doing quite well so she should be around for another event for a 4 generation photograph.

Fun With Floods – Day 314 of 365

written by dav.d

Once a week my sister’s property gets irrigated – and the lawn is flooded with water. This is apparently what they use to due before sprinklers. How quaint.

Anywho, this also means that there is a cheap alternative to a water and my nephew and nieces can go rafting in the lawn. My dad provided some rafts, innertubes, and some ropes to pull the kids around. They had a lot of fun and it was a chance to try out my recently repaired Nikon lens. So far the lens is working, I am crossing my fingers that this fourth repair lasts! Shooting with my Nikon camera brings back a lot of memories. And I am reminded with how good Nikon’s autofocus system really kicks butt.

I should zoom into the photo so you could see the sad sad face of Henry. He was asked to push his Uncle Adam on the raft and Henry was just too sad. He wanted to ride the ride. :(

Lagoon – Day 308 of 365

written by dav.d

Roller coasters were meant for screaming like a girl and yelling “we’re gonna die!” My family has a lot of fun when we hang out and even more fun when screaming is involved.

Yes, I could take one of my normal cameras – but then I would probably focus more on the photography and less on just hanging out and having fun. And I didn’t want to worry about my camera getting wet or carrying a large camera on a ride. So I took my point and shoot camera and my iPhone 4 with me. These photos are a mix from both cameras.

And my brother from Arizona was able to make it up to visit. His kids LOVED the roller coasters. I didn’t ride roller coasters till high school so they are one up on me.

Testing the Train Float – Day 304 of 365

written by dav.d

Happy 4th of July! In Utah, if July 4th falls on a Sunday, the holiday is completely ignored and celebrated instead on the 3rd and 5th. My family tested out a train float that will appear in the July 5th parade in Provo, Utah. And each kid had the chance to be the train’s conductor/captain. I have no clue what they call the train person.

Olives & Fingers – Day 302 of 365

written by dav.d

I think any kind that has ever eaten black olives has first put them on each finger. Although this is a first where these were sliced olives, but Henry apparently is a slave to tradition.

This photo was taken with my iPhone.

Children of the Bush – Day 290 of 365

written by dav.d

It is so nice to have my nieces and nephews here in Orem, Utah. It gives me the chance to practice some children photography – and I was even able to get them to calm down for a few minutes to take some headshots. Yes, I should have grabbed a reflector – but when it is Father’s Day and I am just hanging out with the family I usually don’t drag out the lighting and too much camera gear.

Easter Dinner with the Family – Day 213 of 365

written by dav.d

For holidays I am the family photographer. My family didn’t believe my joke when I said I arrived to Easter dinner without my camera. They didn’t buy the idea that I might have been taking the day off from creating photographs. I can’t imagine that happening either.

So here are a few photographs of the rolls, the nephew and the nieces. I tried to catch them as they played, read, or just did their thing. That is my definition of “lifestyle photography.” To capture people being themselves.

And these were taken with my favorite lens of all time – the 50mm f/1.2.
