Gay Bowl VIII – Closing Activities

Sunday night after a weekend of activity can seem like such a downer – you know the next day people will be heading to the airport with bags in hand. Endings can really suck. However, the party continued with great spirits Sunday night.

Dinner was hosted at Rice Eccles Stadium – home of the Utah Utes. I know I had to sanitize after I left – I felt so dirty on enemy territory. Go Cougars. But it was an wonderful venue with a gorgeous view of the valley as the sunset and on the other side was the stadium;

After dinner the after party picked up at Trolley Square. Dancing, music and drinking and the night went on for some time. All in all a great time. At both the dinner and the after party I provided a slideshow of the photos from the games. It was a kick to watch people enjoy their photos. Slideshows are awesome and I can make them pretty quickly.

Gay Bowl VIII – a Preview

This weekend has been absolutely crazy – 6500 photos crazy. However, is was immensely fun as well. With 19 teams from around the country converging on Salt Lake City it was a great Gay Bowl 8 tournament. And at times you would wonder if it really was flag football – there were tackles, concussions, dislocated shoulders and more.

The weather was entertaining – sun, clouds, rain, and snow! I was enjoying it – I don’t know if the players enjoyed it. But from talking with people a good time was had by all. I will be working quickly to get some galleries of photos uploaded. I am hoping to have the first galleries uploaded by Tuesday. First I have to sort through all the photos. In the mean time here is a preview of some of the photos.

These photos have been processed through Photoshop – to imitate old classic NFL films. I won’t be able to do that to 6500 photos but some will get that extra punch.

I am such a slacker!

Actually, I have been anything but a slacker…

I know I said I would post galleries each day of the football happenings at the Gay Bowl 8. Well, things are so crazy that I am not going to do that until about Tuesday. It is Saturday night and I have just created a slideshow for the evening’s party at Club Babylon.

Not a lot of time and no time to create web galleries and blog posts. So the images are coming – I have taken already about 4000 photos since Thursday night. And probably another 3000 will be taken by Sunday night. So the images are coming!

Gay Bowl 8 – Pep Rally & Fashion Show

Football and Fashion invaded Trolley Square over the weekend. This week 320 football players will decend on Salt Lake City in a vicious battle of blood, sweat and tears. Victory is their goal but few shall taste its sweetness.

What about the fashion I can hear you say… the fashion show featured models from Xpose Photography. Clothing was provided by Cockers, Cahoots, Spark and others. This event was the first of many for Gay Bowl 8. Visit their website to find out when games play and when the social events are in full swing. Woo hoo!

There are teams from Chicago, Washington DC, Denver, Atlanta, Boston, New York, California, and Minnesota. Salt Lake City has two teams playing in the tournament – the Avalance and the X-communicated.

Gay Bowl 8 Advertising Photos

I am excited for the next two posts. I photographed advertising for the upcoming Gay Bowl 8 to be hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah. We broke the photoshoot up in to 2 parts. The first was photographed as the sun was beginning to set on one of the local high school football fields. This is all natural light although I was tempted to bring out the studio lights for some other shots.

I purchased up some baby oil, a spray bottle of Evian water, and some make-up to help create the illusion everyone just spent a few hours working out in football camp. We had them run stairs run a few plays and a few posed shots. In essense these are lifestyle advertisements – and they look great.

We may have one or two more shoots before the Gay Bowl – we shall see. I will be there October 10-12 photographing the events and the games. It will be awesome – I get to be a sports photographer!
