Jam hosted their Red, White & Blue Party on Saturday night. I wasn’t equipped with my favorite camera with the lenses to shoot at the dark – I had my camera and lens for fireworks. So these photos aren’t as good as I like but check them out in the SmugMug gallery.

Breakfast? – Day 296 of 365
written by dav.dOk, maybe not breakfast – it was lunch. And I was editing photos like a madman and didn’t have the chance to run to the store for some real food. Well, that and I was watching the World Cup. And even though the US lost to Ghana in overtime I think I got all the 3 major food groups: carbonated, alcohol, and fruit.

Diet A&W Root beer, Kahlúa, and canned pears for breakfast?
And this photograph was actually taken with my Nikon D90! I haven’t forgotten about my Nikon gear. Even though I am sending my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens back to the shop for the FOURTH time. This time the lens is just clicking and can’t even focus, WTF Nikon!?
So this shot was taken with the Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens. And the nice thing with the 18-200mm is how close you can stand to the subject. I was about 2 feet from the cans/bottles. You can’t get that close with a 70-200mm.

Club Jam @ Conference Weekend – Day 212 of 365
written by dav.dClub Jam was hopping Saturday night! It had been a while since I have been there so it was fun to see some of the changes. Some new lights and another station to serve drinks so you don’t have to stand in line so long.
Check the full gallery on SmugMug (and buy some photos!).

Watching the Big Game – Day 157 of 365
written by dav.dI don’t follow football as much as I did in high school or college. These days I will go to BYU football games with the family and watch the Superbowl with friends.
And part of the fun of watching the Superbowl is the junk food and the beverages – including Mike’s Hard Lime and Grape Soda.
And you can only watch the Superbowl in HD – if you are watching anything less than HD – the terrorists win. And I had a lot of fun Twittering during the game. And it was fun to twitter which commercials I thought were the best. My favorite was the Snickers commercial featuring Betty White.
And I watched the game at a friends home – getting there was a challenge. I had to wait about 10 minutes for this stupid train to very slowly cross. I was pissed! And I did miss the opening prayer ( oh wait that is only at BYU games ) and I missed the National Anthem which I understand was screwed up by someone, again. And I did miss the kick off because I didn’t know how to turn on their damn tv and Direct TV. Too many remotes and not enough time.
As for any gays who didn’t watch the football game – shame on you. Football is the gayest sport in the world! You should be watching it because they have tight ends, wide receivers, guys in jock straps, tight pants, going deep to catch balls, guys slapping each other on the butt, and a few other “gay-ish” activities.

Club Jam’s Busiest Night Ever!
written by dav.dWhat a difference a liquor license makes! Club Jam celebrated their busiest night ever! They reached capacity at least twice and they had to make people wait till people cycled through. The dance floor was packed and DJ Tidy spun the music of Lady Gaga and others, however, it was Lady Gaga day.
Check out the full gallery of photos on my SmugMug. And buy a few photos – it helps me support my entourage.

Yet another night at Club Jam – Day 92 of 365
written by dav.dTrying to improve as a photographer means photographing constantly. Right now I have photographed and blogged at least once a day for 92 days in a row – that is easily a record for me. And I have photographed regularly at Club Jam – and that provides another learning experience. You would think that photographing the same location week in and week out would lead to me photographing everything and never photographing anything new. However, I am constantly finding new ways to photograph new and different stories or people. I am forcing myself to look at photography different. Maybe sometime I will photograph a different club – but I have a lot of fun at Jam.
To see the full gallery check out my SmugMug gallery of photographs. And any photos purchased (downloads or prints) helps keep me buying the new and latest camera gear. Not that gear makes me a better photographer – but it couldn’t hurt.

And, another way to try and improve as a photographer is to force myself to photograph with just one lens. In this case I used my current favorite lens – the Nikkor f/1.4 50mm G lens. It is a gorgeous lens that can almost shoot in the dark without a flash. But for events I can survive on one light. Actually, more than just survive. With one Nikon SB-800 and part of the Gary Fong Lightsphere I can bounce light and make it look like a had a big light – almosty a softbox in the room. I keep the shutter speed at about 1/30th of a second on slow sync speed. It helps mix the ambient light with some strobe. Most all of these photographs were photographed at ISO 800.

Red Bull & Vodka
And if things take off with photography I am hoping I can raise some dinero for several new camera bodies and several lenses. I want to get the Nikon D700 and I am really considering adding a Canon camera to my lineup of tools. Why would I want to shoot Canon? There are three lenses I am starting to lust for in my heart. They are the Canon 85mm f/1.2, Canon 50mm f/1.2, Canon 24mm f/1.4. These are 3 lenses that Nikon doesn’t make – and I don’t think Nikon will ever make them. Canon makes great prime lenses and these lenses all shoot with very shallow depth of field and help shoot in very low light. Oh, to dream…

Enjoying the evening
These photographs include a lot of detail shots. Photographing alcohol probably won’t help someone going to Alcohol Anonymous, however, we weren’t at Club Jam for coffee, donuts, and 12 steps. We were there for dancing, drinking, and fun.

This photograph is brought to you by beer
And the more I photograph the more I realized that I am constantly learning. So I need to simplify my life so I focus on 3 areas: work, photography, and fitness. So no time for dating, no time for much else. But at least photography won’t break my heart

Someone has a secret - and she is spilling the beans
Anyway, I am hoping you folks enjoy my photographs – and it is fun to hear people’s feedback. And check out SmugMug – and buy some photographs!
