I had the chance to photograph Mike Hansen. He recently graduated from college and is looking to do some modeling and acting. And so we spent a rainy Saturday morning in a studio shoot (Rich Legg has a new studio that is available for rent) and then we braved the elements and took a few photos in the Sugarhouse area.
The first shot here is actually an available light shot – the light that was wrapping around the seamless background was really cool – and what do you do when you have amazingly cool natural light? You take a break from studio lights or artificial lights and you jump on the chance for cool light.
And one question that is often asked is “what should I wear?” On personal photo shoots I usually recommend clothes that represent you and look good. To be honest I want you to look like you. On big time photo shoots the often is a stylist who will pick wardrobe and make up and help tailor a look. However, I don’t have that opportunity very often (hopefully some day). Till then, if you are looking to model and get into fashion I would suggest wearing clothes that represent what you want to model. If you want to model for high fashion then wear high fashion – or maybe skip the jeans. If you want the preppy look for your career – the wear the Abercrombie.
I will admit that photographing models is going to be a motivation for me to keep hitting the gym. My name is dav.d and I like food. “hi, dav.d!”
Oh, wait, what were we talking about?!
Anyway, Mike was great to work with and I hope the weather stays nice this week because I love photographing outside. I also need to break in my new lens.
