Oscar Night 2011 with the Utah AIDS Foundation @ the Complex

Oscar Night is the largest fundraiser for the Utah AIDS Foundation. The Utah AIDS Foundation is recognizing their 25 years of service to people in Utah affected with HIV/AIDS.

Oscar Night America is the only party in Utah that is officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. This mission based fund raiser is the largest and longest running official Academy Award fund raiser in the entire nation and is consistently ranked as Salt Lake City’s “Party of the Year”. This year the event was held at the Complex – just west of the Gateway. Food was provided by Frida’s Bistro and dessert from Gastronomy.

I have been photographing this event for several years and every year it is just a blast. I’ll confess – it is great practice and I learn a ton by photographing each year. And next year I swear I will be skinny enough to rent a tuxedo – new New Year resolution.

This year there was a red carpet with a background with the Academy and UAF logos – there were other photographers who were taking those photographs but I did grab a few photographs of my own.

This is a really cool photograph – I love to photograph glass because it can be a challenge but it can also be rather abstract and cool.

The way the food was served this year didn’t lend itself to much for food photography – however – I was able to create this photograph of the dessert. I am bouncing the light off of a paper from the evening’s program.
