Usually you need a tripod to photograph the moon - all I had was my Canon point and shoot
And this is why you want a tripod and a really long lens to capture the moon. I can’t get a lot of detail from this photograph. But it looks pretty good considering I shot this with a 12x optical point and shoot camera. I had been hunting for something to photograph all day – and finding nothing cool or unique. So during the BYU football game I tried photographing the moon a few times.
I finally got the shot after switching to manual mode – which is a totally necessary mode in my opinion. Sometimes cameras are a bit dumb to figure out this kind of scene.
