Saturday night I photographed the Human Rights Campain Gala Dinner in Salt Lake City, Utah. I will say that I rock as an event photographer – and I am not afraid to toot my own horn. I should change my business cards to say dav.d, ninja photographer
.
I get everywhere and I try to photograph everyone and everything. And I try to be as unobtrusive as possible. And I would encourage people to see the full photography gallery on my SmugMug page including a photograph of a Mercedes Benz that was part of the silent auction.
And you have to photograph the volunteers – without them these dinners would crumble and we don’t want that to happen. I even wore my own yellow HRC t-shirt from last year. I figured it would save someone some money.
And it is important to photograph the place settings. But we all know what a fork looks like – so I try to focus on what makes the place setting unique to the event – in this case the advertisement that identifies this event.
Tammy Baldwin was the featured guest speaker – she is the first out lesbian to run for Congress and she hails from Wisconsin. It is always a pleasure to photograph such pioneers.
And I would rue the day I photograph an event and I don’t see some of my favorite lesbians. They work for Equality Utah and the Pride Center. If they didn’t come to events like this the world would stop spinning on its axis.
You gotta look fabulous and rock the look. Enough said.
The HRC and Utah is blessed to have Bruce Bastian as a key benefactor. He donates so much to the national and local community – I am sure he alone could rotate the axis of the world for a while.
And the entertainment was off the hook! Thelma Houston performed some classic Motown hits. If I wasn’t photographing I would be dancing.
