A toast to Mike Thompson and his work at Equality Utah

Equality Utah bid farewell to one hell of a leader this week. Mike Thompson has lead the fight for equal rights in the gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexual community here in Utah for the last few years. He is leaving Utah with 3 openly gay legislators and a number of allies in the legislature.

Thousands of people state wide have benefited from his leadership and from his knack for fund raising. Politics is fund raising and he has been a champion.

Warning, these photos are of the same location – but different treatments with Adobe Lightroom Presets and Photoshop Actions. I have been toying around with using just Lightroom in portrait retouching and not using Photoshop as much.

Sunlight, a softbox, and a model

Sunlight is not the only light

Sunlight is not the only light

Lately I have heard some photographers say, “There should be one light source because there is only one sun. Anything else looks artificial.” I couldn’t disagree more. The sun can even be the secondary light source. It can act as a rim light – or ambient light

There are times when I want to practice my photography and my photographic skills. When do I do this? During a photo shoot? Probably not. I have to find a subject who has some patience and has time to spend so I can experiment.
